I found some time, as I awaited a needed document for my dossier, to return to torch enameling decals onto my recycled copper.
I had given up on the decals as over the winter the enameling was popping off when I slowly returned to the second firing of the piece. I was so upset and discouraged that I stopped trying.
But then, I realized it was thermal shock as my torching area is in an enclosed back porch with no heat, so even though the sun would warm it up some, it was just too cold despite the space heater.
Now that we have 90 degree heat, I decided to give it another go.
Woot! Success.
So I will be doing the decal dance again and selling them through my enameling shop. You can also find some finished pieces here as well.
xoxo

school is officially out for the summer though i will be teaching summer school and so look forward to it! i get to meet and work with many of next year's students, so i'll get a sense of how they work and who they are before the beginning of the school year. for a teacher, that's the coolest eva! any who, i'll be working with the new firsts and seconds.
so field day was energetic and wet. the kids had so much fun! and then we waved them all good by. one student yelled from the bus, ~i hate all of you~. poor thing. so much hate. she had a rough year.
so i'm a bit lost this weekend without school work to do, so i started sorting through the Board Certification write ups. wow! i'm gonna be working long hours and enjoying every minutes of it. i'm such a geek when it comes to my profession as i have just as many aha! moments as my students and love, love, love it! the Boards are coined as the best professional development a teacher could ever get, and i'm up to my neck with enthusiasm for this PD.
well, got some time on my hands so i made some earrings and went to a party, went out to celebrate the ending of a fabulous year, heading out for a mountain bike ride and planning my babies 10th birthday tomorrow! water balloons are in the mix with a big fruit salad. his sister is making him a mine craft lemon blueberry cake. fun, fun all around this weekend. oh sure, i'll get in the house cleaning and laundry, but mostly fun! hope yours is as well. cheers!
all for sale at my etsy. xoxo

~.bead soup reveal. .big ups to lori!
the above is what i received from hannah rosner. yummy focals, pearls, glass, clasp.
so i started breaking down some biker chain right away (left photo) as i knew bike would be involved. i then tumbled the links to get off the grease and gunk.

i put the chain in a barrel tumbler and they came out all nice and shiny like this:
and my fingers get all like this while going through the process:
i went ahead and used my foredom to spruce up the bike parts as some of them had spots after the tumbling. see them?!
i laid out a design that used all the beads.
then i wrapped and decorated the largest of the two focals and kinda liked it.
but then! i did this instead. took off all the pearls and made a simple necklace with the bike parts, sterling silver rings, the largest focal point bead in a mossy green and a wonderful pearl and sterling clasp (scored at the recent bead expo here in santa fe).
another view:
and yet another. :)
so, i decided to use the clasp and other focal bead in a bracelet here by pairing them up with a brass bell, brass skeleton key and creamy sari silk:
and another view:
and the little pearls in a pair of earrings. all copper, hand forged, yummy!
and here they are again:
i've gotton many sweet comments on the pieces and adore the earrings.
i have decided to keep the them, yet the neckpiece and bracelet are for sale. check my new esty destash shop darliciousdestash for them as i am closing my regular etsy shop, so don't look there BUT do go here (there) for halfoffeverything (coupon code at checkout) to help me with my national boards.
you have now witnessed the end of a journey that was so much fun and challenging. i'm glad i came up with three fun items instead of the one as i had planned. i think i like my new end results better!
cheers and have fun blog hopping! and thanks hannah! and lori!
